Spider In The Community

Spider is committed to being a socially responsible business. We believe it’s important for all companies to try to make a difference in their local communities—even if it’s small gestures, they all add up to something extremely worthwhile.

Helping Charities and our Business Community

Managing Director Michelle Pollard has always pushed this narrative and conveyed its importance to her team at Spider HQ.

We’ve had team members running half marathons for charity and another volunteering as a primary school governor. Sophie, our Customer Development Manager, volunteered to run a face-painting stand for Mid and North East Essex Mind Colchester Stampede 10k in 2024.

Our Key Account Manager, Gail Shemming, champions change for the region’s disadvantaged in her role as Trustee at the Access Community Trust charity. The charity supports the homeless and offers mental health and well-being assistance to those who are vulnerable or socially isolated.

To celebrate 11 years in business, Spider pledged to support 11 regional charities by offering them free recruitment advertising services—you can read more in Michelle’s post celebrating 11 years.

How Local Businesses Support Community Well-Being

We take on these activities because companies that actively contribute to local communities can help promote overall well-being. They engage with the community, foster social connections, and reduce isolation.

Like our own, your business can help develop local skills and create job opportunities, which boosts individual confidence and economic stability in your local area. By supporting local infrastructure and services, you can help make neighbourhoods better places to live, leading to stronger communities.

Spider finds that our involvement enhances social cohesion by fostering community connections and collaboration. By supporting mental and physical health initiatives, we believe we contribute towards a healthier population and more resilient communities, strengthening the community’s social fabric.

Community

Building a Stronger Local Economy

Businesses that invest in local communities contribute to a thriving local economy by creating jobs and boosting local spending.

Our time investment can lead to improved infrastructure and services, which help attract more people to the community. This cycle of growth and development enhances economic stability for all.

Support from local businesses can create a ripple effect in the community that significantly boosts the economy. Job creation provides residents with income, which increases local spending. This, in turn, encourages more businesses to open, and the cycle of growth continues.
